1st-5th graders learn Spanish
5th graders also receive and introduction to French
6th-8th graders may choose between French and Spanish

The Foreign Language objectives for Paramount are to provide the students with:
• The opportunity to discover a new language
• The fundamental skills of speaking, reading, writing, and listening in that foreign language
• The means to learn about other cultures and become more aware of their own culture
• A better understanding of English
• The ability to appreciate and value diversity
• The ability to make connections with other disciplines
• A solid foundation for future foreign language study.

Students who study a foreign language profit of the following benefits:
• Have a better understanding and appreciation of their own language and culture
• Score higher on standardized tests
• Exhibit greater creativity, adaptability, and problem solving skills
• Have better interpersonal and communication skills
• Show improvement in spatial, verbal, and listening skills
• Are more willing to accept and appreciate other cultures
• Develop a higher level of thinking.

Elementary students meet once or twice a week for the entire school year. Middle school students meet daily for one quarter. Students who have attended PCA from K-8th grade, are typically able to start 2nd year Spanish in high school.
